Teeth

This week Austin had a dentist appointment to get one of his teeth filled (that had a cavity), but when they took the xray it was too deep to fill... long story short, he either needed a mini root canal to take the nerve out and then cap it, or they could pull it, but they'd have to put a spacer to hold the spot since it was a baby tooth. either way, not a quick fix. So today he had to be put out to fix his teeth...
He did great, he got a little loopy for a while, but now he has some shiny teeth, and hopefully no more pain. Poor kid got his daddy's teeth...

Dove Hunting

Last weekend was the big dove hunting weekend....and this year the boys decided they wanted to go hunting. There's about 25 of them that go out, and Andrew and Austin had a good time!

Chevy even made some new puppy friends that were visiting..... The little tan one is a corgie puppy!

Honor Flight

I just found out that my grandpa Kamler, a WWII veteran, will get to go see the WWII memorial on September 17th. He's getting to thanks to this great organization called Honor Flight. They are run strictly on donations and have made it their mission to get every WWII vet to Washington DC so they can see their memorial. Beth sent out this email in case anyone missed it...

Mike and Dad are going on the Honor Flight on Sept. 17, which is a trip to Washington, DC to see the WWII memorial, among others. Mike mentioned that part of the trip is a mail call for the veterans, so I'm asking for anyone who can to write a note/draw a picture, etc. for Dad. Put the note in a sealed envelope, addressed to Dad and get the sealed envelope to Mike before they leave. I think Mike said that the instructions suggested asking him questions about his experience as part of the letters too if you want. Don't forget that it's a surprise to Dad that he will get these letters. http://www.honorflight.org/index.htm

You can’t put a price on our most prized possession - freedom. Some say, “The greatest things in life are free.” Freedom isn’t one of them. During World War II, about 400,000 Americans gave their lives in battles to secure freedom for Europe, the Pacific, and America. Many of the survivors of these battles are among us today. They are the old man who drives too slow (actually doing the speed limit). You can find them in the checkout line paying for groceries with dollar bills and counting out the change, instead of swiping a credit card. They are “old school” men and women who are the most stoic, appreciative, hard working, patriotic and humble people who walk the earth. They are the people I should have thanked while touring the border, and while walking through the concentration camp. They are also the same people that the whole world should thank.
Now in the final chapter of their lives, most are trying to survive on tiny fixed incomes. Their life savings are gone, wiped out by skyrocketing health care costs. They have earned our undying gratitude, but often don’t get any acknowledgement. They collectively and literally saved the world, but for 60 years, they had no national memorial to their service and the ultimate sacrifices of their friends. In 2004 a WWII Memorial for our nation’s most senior heroes was dedicated; however, now in their 80’s and 90’s, they have no means to visit it.
The Honor Flight Network began as a small token of our appreciation to get WWII Veterans out to visit THEIR memorial, to visit America’s “Thank You” for their incredible accomplishments and the sacrifices of friends that never made it home. The entire flight and subsequent bus tour are completely free to members of “The Greatest Generation.” We work tirelessly to get every WWII Veteran in America out to their memorial; however, we simply can’t get to all of them before it’s too late. That’s why I now take every opportunity to simply say “Thank you for what you’ve done” to everyone I encounter over the age of 80. When I do, their faces light up and they walk away a little taller. I would ask that every American take a second to acknowledge and say “Thank You” to every WWII Veteran they encounter. They will treasure your comments for the rest of their lives. "

Birthday

Anyone that knows Andrew know he loves a party, so Saturday he got to have one with some of his classmates. One of his freinds, Kyle, was in his kindergarden class and then played on his tball team in spring and summer...well his birthday is Sept 6th, Andrew's is Sept 4th, so they invited their kindergarden classmates to the roller rink on Saturday and had a party together.

I made a pirate ship cake for them...
